Critics are almost equally divided over Thor , the latest from superhero factory Marvel Entertainment. Joe Morgenstern’s review in the Wall Street Journal is typical of those that scorn it. Despite a miserable review from The New York Times, Thor has generated an “80% fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with most critics noting Chris Hemsworth’s impressively buff build as well as his smooth performance.

There is something curious about the timing of the first round of Thor reviews to hit the web. Knowing Paramount, their publicity team was very calculated in lifting the embargo on a select number of reviewers. In the meantime, “Thor” opinions are still flying around.
